Build a settings record you can trust

Start from the exact machine, tool and material guidance. These packages are planning templates; they have not been physically validated on every listed machine.

CNC setup

Record cutter diameter, flutes, stickout, RPM, feed units, depth per pass, stepover and workholding. Simulate, check the origin and make a scrap test before committing stock.

Laser setup

Record module and power, material thickness, speed with units, passes, focus, air and measured kerf. Use approved materials and the manufacturer’s ventilation and operating instructions.

Buy the cutters your first toolpaths require. Confirm shank and collet compatibility, cutting length, geometry and the tool maker’s limits. A large assortment does not replace the correct tool.

Test the material, then test the fit

First find usable engraving or cutting behavior on matching scrap. Then measure thickness and test the joint. A tab that fits one sheet may bind or wobble in the next batch.

One successful prototype

Measure the finished part, test assembly and complete the intended finish. Keep the failed coupons and notes; they show what changed.

A short repeatability run

Make three as an example learning exercise. Compare dimensions, registration and finish, and record real hands-on time.

A batch you can cost

Only increase quantity after the process repeats. Include setup, waste, rework, maintenance and packaging when you price it.

Before committing to an expensive setup: try a supplier-cut blank, a makerspace session or an outsourced sample where available. Bring your own file and material requirements, and compare the complete result with what you intend to sell or keep.
