Getting Started with WoodWorkCalc
WoodWorkCalc is built around a simple operating loop: make a decision with a calculator, turn the result into a quote or record when it becomes real work, and use the workspace to follow that work through completion. This guide shows where each part of the site belongs so you do not have to build your own system from scratch.

- Start with one live project or shop decision instead of trying to configure every area at once.
- Keep your material costs, shop rate, and a rough scope nearby before building your first estimate.
- Create an account when you are ready to save work into quotes, jobs, customers, or inventory.
Know the difference between tools, workspace, and Academy
Calculators are fast decision tools. Use them to price material, test a cost assumption, plan a cut list, or compare a shop number. The dashboard is the system of record once that decision belongs to a customer, quote, job, operation, or inventory item. Academy is deliberately separate: it teaches woodworking fundamentals, CNC, and laser skills from basic through professional practice.
Start with the part of the job that is least clear
If you do not know how much stock to buy, begin with a material or cut-planning tool. If you do not know what to charge, start with the project or labor tools. If a client already wants the work, move to Quotes after you have a defensible price. WoodWorkCalc works best when each screen answers one question before you take the next step.
Use the dashboard as your working memory
The homepage saves working values and snapshots in this browser, not in your account. They do not automatically follow you to another device and can disappear when browser data is cleared. Use Dashboard → Quotes → Save quote for an account-backed quote record; check that it appears in history before relying on it. Keep scope, customer context, and delivery promises with the workspace record.
Keep the learning loop connected without mixing the roles
Use a calculator after you understand the input it needs. If you need help understanding wood movement, feeds and speeds, dust safety, or a laser test, open the relevant Academy lesson first. Once you understand the input, return to the product tool to document or price the decision.
