Pick a calculator by the decision, not the name
Material tools help answer how much stock, sheet goods, finish, or allowance you need. Cut-planning tools help answer how parts fit on stock and where kerf or trim belongs. Pricing tools help answer what the work must recover. Shop tools help answer capacity, rate, overhead, and delivery planning. Make the calculator explainable
A useful estimate can be traced back to measurements, supplier prices, expected hours, waste, and policy choices. Do not enter one padded number to hide several unknowns. Separate material, labor, overhead, and profit where the calculator provides those inputs so you can see what changed when a supplier price or scope detail moves.
Use results as checkpoints
A calculator result should give you a question to check next: Does the cut plan still respect grain and trim? Does the price include design time and installation?
