Laser Raster Engraving Time Calculator
Estimate rectangular fill or image engraving time from scan size, line interval, speed, passes and turnaround allowance.

Calculation
Your result
- Scan rows per pass
- 500
- Ideal travel time
- 4.583 min
- Turnaround allowance
- 0.417 min
- Estimated engraving time
- 5 min
Estimate excludes setup, framing and loading. Keep laser speed units in mm/s; CNC feed rates are commonly in mm/min.
The quote handoff carries your inputs and assumptions. Only an explicit base cost is suggested as a quote cost; prices, rates and measurements remain planning notes.

Method & assumptions
Rows = ceiling(cross-scan dimension ÷ interval). Seconds per pass = rows × ((scan length + 2 × overscan per side) ÷ speed + turnaround seconds). Multiply by passes.
- Assumes bidirectional scanning across the full rectangle, with one turnaround allowance per row. Blank skipping, multiple shapes and grayscale behavior are not simulated.
- Overscan is entered as distance per side, not LightBurn's percentage. Constant-speed travel is an ideal estimate; calibrate turnaround allowance using a timed job or use the controller's preview.
