Roundover & edge-profile bits
Understand profile radius, bearing contact and height before shaping a finished edge.
How it works
The tool's shaped edge removes a matching profile. Height and lateral position determine whether the transition is flush or leaves an intentional shoulder.
When to consider it
Use a matching radius or profile to ease an exposed edge with an approved router and adequate support.
Where it does not apply
Radius and overall cutting diameter are different dimensions. A profile bit's maximum speed may be lower than a small straight bit's.
Before the first cut
- Confirm the exact cutter radius, cutting diameter, bearing and machine compatibility.
- Set depth with the machine isolated and use matching scrap to check both ends of the profile.
- Use the manual's guards, guiding method and feed direction; keep small parts in an appropriate fixture.

If the result looks wrong
Stop the machine and make it safe to inspect before checking the tool or workpiece.
Unwanted ledge
Check bit height, bearing size and contact, then retest on scrap.
Burned profile
Check edge condition, support and the documented operating range; do not diagnose from color alone.
