Separate operating skill from business math
Academy teaches the craft: controlled first cuts, test matrices, machine preparation, workholding, layers, and the relationship between variables. The calculators support a different task: documenting a cost, feed-rate conversion, or starting value within the broader project. Keeping those roles separate prevents an app result from being mistaken for a complete technical procedure.
Price the whole machine workflow
In CNC Batch Cost, setup time and tooling are for the entire batch. Run time, material, finish, extra manual labor and overhead are per part. Enter the number of parts to spread setup without dividing away recurring work. Include programming, workholding and cleanup in the appropriate allowance, and avoid adding labor or overhead twice if already included in the machine rate.
Use controlled tests for technical changes
When a material, bit, lens, machine condition, depth, or desired result changes, use the relevant Academy lesson and a controlled test. Label the result with its actual context. A calculator can help document the input or cost, but it cannot see your hold-down, clearance, focus, dust collection, stock condition, or machine behavior.
Bring proven numbers back into the business system
Once a process is known, use the calculator and dashboard to keep the time, cost, and price repeatable. That allows a CNC or laser product to move from a one-off experiment into a quote, customer record, job, and operations plan without stripping away the facts that made it work.

Why should setup time be included in a machine quote?
Programming, workholding, material preparation, testing, cleanup, and quality checks are real production work even when the machine run itself is short.
